Facilities & Equipment

PRI has more than 10,000 square feet  of laboratory space dedicated to advancing human health, with additional space and equipment available through agreements with neighboring institutions.

The PRI labs contain all standard laboratory items plus the following:

  • Cell culture facility
  • HPLC with autosampler and detectors (CAD, photodiode array)
  • Liquid Chromatograph-tandem Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS/MS)
  • UPLC with autosampler and detectors (CAD, photodiode array)
  • Confocal microscope
  • Atomic absorption spectrophotometer
  • High speed centrifuge
  • Inverted microscope
  • X-ray diffraction
  • Coagulation analyzers
  • Fibro meter
  • Thromboelastograph
  • Coulter counter
  • Dynamic light scattering (DLS)
  • Thin Layer Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (TLC-MS)
  • Preparative Chromatography (ISCO)
  • Benchtop NMR
  • FT-IR
  • UV-Spectrophometer
Dr. Mousa and his team of professionals also have full access to the core facilities in their building, the U Albany Cancer Research Center. The list includes:

  • Flow Cytometry
  • Microarray
  • DNA sequencing
  • Proteomics
All equipment needed for animal studies is available in a space contracted by PRI at the Animal Studies Facility of the Albany Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center, located nearby in Albany (~4 miles from PRI). Through this relationship, PRI researchers have access to:

  • Surgical equipment
  • Surgical microscopes
  • IVIS imaging system (PRI-owned)
  • Intravitreal imaging
  • Hemodynamic monitoring equipment
  • Freezers, refrigerators, centrifuges
As a result of Dr. Mousa’s joint appointment at nearby Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, PRI researchers also have access to their core facilities which include:

  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
  • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
