About the First International Nanomedicine Symposium

A series of interactive lectures and workshops will be presented by national experts from Academia, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical companies, National Institutes of Health (NCI Nano Lab), and the FDA. These accelerated Nanomedicine lectures/workshops offer specialized training in Nanobiotechnology and its impacts on the future of personalized medicines. The symposium will be at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) in Albany, New York.

Special Notes:

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

  • Dr. Mousa will be a Theme Editor for an upcoming issue on “Targeted Delivery of Pharmaceutical and Nutraceuticals” (tentative title) in the journal “Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews”. Selected speakers from the Nanomedicine Symposium Aug 3-7 will be invited to expand their lectures into an article for the special issue. The journal (2014 impact factor 15.038) serves as a leading forum for documenting critical reviews on current or emerging challenges in the design, engineering, and therapeutic applications of advanced drug and gene delivery systems. www.journals.elsevier.com/advanced-drug-delivery-reviews
  • Selected talks from both conferences will appear as chapters in a 1000+ page book: S. A. Mousa and R. Bawa (Editors): Impact of Nanobiotechnology on the Future of Medicine and Personalized Medicine, Pan Stanford Publishing, Singapore (2016). Conference reports will be published in Future Science OA as well as Journal of Interdisciplinary Nanomedicine. All speakers and attendees are invited to contribute to these publication projects.

Nanomedicine is a rapidly developing area of biomedical research that uses nanoscale-sized, targeted delivery systems to address urgent needs for improved drug and gene delivery. Such “next generation” therapies can specifically deliver drugs and recombinant DNAs to target areas of disease or to tumors in order to maximize clinical benefit while limiting side effects. Such strategies are also expected to drastically improve early diagnosis through bio-imaging techniques, biomarkers, and biosensors.

The Nanomedicine lectures/workshops will provide cross-cutting topics that will prepare individuals from Biological and Physical Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine, or other healthcare-related professional disciplines to become familiar with nanotechnology research. The goal is to integrate a number of interdisciplinary research structures to provide a coherent strategy for educating individuals more broadly in Nanobiotechnology while still maintaining intellectual depth in core concepts.

When/Where: The Symposium will be held August 3 – 7, 2015, at the Gozzo Student Center, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 106 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208, USA.

Registration includes attendance at all lectures & Thursday Workshops; daily breakfast, lunch, refreshment breaks; Gala Dinner; free copy of online & hardcopy book of selected presentations from the Symposium: Impact of Nanobiotechnology on the Future of Medicine and Personalized Medicine, (S.A. Mousa & R. Bawa, eds.), Pan Stanford Publishing, Singapore (2016).

Registration rate: The Professional Rate to attend the Nanomedicine Symposium is $1,500 per person. The Student Rate is $750 per person. The Student Rate includes undergraduate, graduate, MD resident, pharmacy student, or fellow. You must provide a valid Student ID within 24 hours of registration in order to keep the Student Rate.

You can register here.

Target audiences (domestic and international): Post-graduate and professionals from biological and physical sciences, biomedical and biomaterials engineering, pharmacy, medicine, professionals who are working in Biotech / Pharmaceutical companies, and other healthcare-related professionals would benefit from this program.

The objective of this Symposium is to allow individuals to develop high-level competency in a broad range of subjects in Nanobiotechnology and its applications in Nanomedicine.

Nanomedicine Course and Workshops

Organized by the Center of Excellence in Nanomedicine and Translational Research (CENTR) of the Pharmaceutical Research Institute (PRI) at ACPHS

Nanoscale analytical, computational, and synthetic approaches offer the possibility of understanding and manipulating complex biological systems. With the tools now available, it is possible to dissect the structure and function of cells and to begin thinking about the “reverse engineering” problem of reassembling functional biological machines that will permit exciting advances in the life sciences and medicine. In order to realize this potential, it is essential that we train a new generation of scientists and engineers who have a broad understanding both of nanomaterials and biological systems. The tools and techniques required to investigate current problems cut across the traditionally defined academic disciplines. Researchers from diverse areas are needed to understand the issues and develop solutions. To prepare the Nanobiotechnology workforce, individuals must be educated broadly in multiple disciplines at the root of Nanobiotechnology.

About Current Issues in Medicine and Pharma

13th Annual International Conference

This multidisciplinary international conference, in its 13th year, will explore recent advances in medicine and pharma including clinical applications, regulatory science, legal issues, ethics and commercialization activities. The broad ranging presentations will highlight clinical applications to human health, toxicology and the current views of industry and governmental agencies (FDA, NIH, New York State, Patent Office, etc.). Areas of particular focus will be drug delivery, therapies, devices, Obamacare, nanomedicine, biodefense, biologics and biosimilars, patent and FDA law, synthetic biology, gene therapy and diagnostics. The conference will offer networking opportunities to physicians, researchers, engineers, ethicists, environmental scientists, intellectual property practitioners, lawyers, business professionals, technology transfer specialists, policy makers, and venture capitalists.

The Current Issues in Medicine and Pharma Conference will be held on August 10-11, 2015 at the Gozzo Student Center, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences 106 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208, USA.
